RACHEL HICKEY

Rachel Hickey is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter, performer, and multi-instrumentalist whose music blends indie folk and alternative pop. She has released two EPs, Getting By (2021) and So Long (2022), and the album The Eve of St. Agnes (2024). Her musicianship has grown through a combination of formal music education, independent study, live performance, collaboration, songwriting, and years of experimenting with music on her own.

Rachel teaches voice and songwriting from beginner through advanced levels, as well as beginner guitar, piano, and ukulele. She combines a strong musical foundation with a creative, individualized approach, adapting lessons to each student’s age, personality, interests, and goals.

Rachel especially loves helping students discover their own musical voice. For younger students, that might mean making their first songs, finding the confidence to sing out loud, or learning an instrument through music they already love. For more experienced singers and songwriters, it might mean developing their technique, preparing for an audition, pushing their songwriting further, or experimenting with new ideas and sounds.

Her teaching is grounded in joy, play, curiosity, and encouragement. Rachel believes that technical skills and creative freedom should go hand in hand: students should build a strong foundation while also having the freedom to explore, make mistakes, follow their instincts, and discover what makes music feel like theirs.

Above all, Rachel wants students to leave lessons feeling more confident, curious, and excited to make music than when they arrived.
